Oscar's Big Surprise

Today at 6:45 am Oscar departed to Nicaragua to be with his family during their greatest time of need. 9 days ago today, Fernanda Lucia, almost one year old, passed away. Fernanda was Oscar's sister, Xiomara's, daughter.

Sometimes it is so hard to be so far away from family, but especially when you lose a loved one. I know, because I lost my Grandpa only a couple of days after Estella was born. We knew we didnt have the money for all 3 of us to go to Nicaragua, we dont even have Estella's passport and mine says Mary Sheridan. So Oscar bought a plane ticket for one and decided to keep it a secret and surprise his family.

Oscar arrived at his unsuspecting Mom's doorstep and although I wasnt their I can just imagine his Mom's face. Oscar said she was in absolute shock. She couldnt stop hugging him. Oscar's friend, Lester was video taping the surprise and when she realized it she ran and hid because she hadnt gotten ready for the day yet.

I miss Oscar already. I know it sounds corny I mean its only been a few hours but just knowing I won't see him walk through our door tonight makes me sad :( Don't get me wrong though, I am so thrilled for Oscar. He is with his Mom, sisters, daughter, niece and nephews. He is eating our favorite foods, going to our favorite places, listening to our favorite music and, my favorite part, revisiting the moments where we started :)

I have been thinking alot about Xiomara and the rest of Oscar's family and it makes me feel better knowing he is there to comfort them.
